What is a steel pail?

In Japan, steel pails are one of the most reasonable and standard packaging solutions, which can store and transport all kinds of oil, lubricants, chemicals, paints and food well.

The capacity of the steel pail is 18 to 20 liters, which is convenient for one or two people to carry.

Steel pails are easy to store and transport harmful substances, namely chemical substances, toxic substances, flammable substances, combustible substances, etc., and comply with government laws and regulations.

For decades, more than 400 million industrial packaging steel pails have been produced and sold globally each year.

(1) Five advantages of steel pails

·With certain rigidity and safety, it is suitable for packaging and transportation containing harmful substances.

·Exquisite appearance, suitable for fine metal printing.

·The taper type can be stacked, which is beneficial to save storage space.

·Reusable for various needs and occasions.

·It can eventually be recycled and reused by the steel industry.

Early steel pails:

Flower basket lid type open steel pail;

Hoop type open steel pail;

Fixed lid type closed steel pail.

(2) The history of Japanese steel pails

The first steel pail was manufactured in the United States in 1914, in the size of a small steel drum.

The first steel pail imported from the United States to Japan in 1950.

In 1952, during the Korean War, the first steel pails for military use were manufactured in Japan.

·In 1966, an automatic mass production line for steel pails was launched in Japan. The steel pails are widely used in the packaging of the automobile industry because of their solidity, durability, ease of use and beautiful appearance, and have become special containers for high-grade lubricants.

(3) Japan’s steel pail market

The decline in market share that began in the early 2000s was replaced by competition from other industrial packaging.

Market of different types of steel pails:

·Due to the growth of the hybrid vehicle market, the market for flower basket lid open buckets is declining.

·Due to the increase in the amount of silicon used in the electronic equipment and mechanical equipment industries, the hoop-type open barrel market is expanding.

·Closed steel pails are mostly used to hold dangerous chemicals, such as liquid paints, glazes and enamel materials.

Steel buckets are classified according to specifications:

Lightweight steel pails are strengthened by eliminating lugs and strengthening the lid.

The world steel pail market:

Estimated at 426.4 million in 2016. Japan-specific 18-liter industrial container, not included.
