Can Lid Adhesive Distribution: Key Requirements

A qualified can lid undergoes three critical stages: stamping, adhesive application, and drying. The adhesive film’s distribution during application is pivotal for quality sealing.

Ideal Adhesive Film Criteria

    • Uniformity: Continuous appearance with equal dry adhesive volume per quarter/eighth of the lid.
    • Circumferential Distribution: Sealing adhesive must align precisely along the lid’s edge.

Overlap Control Challenges

  • Target: Achieve 2.1 or 3.1 adhesive circles via slight overlap (avoiding exact 2/3 circles)
  • Limits:
    • Overlap area ≤ 1/8 of a circle
    • Overlap adhesive weight ≤ 25% of non-overlapping quarters

Can Lid Adhesive Distribution Key Requirements

Critical Parameters for Precision

  1. Applicator Head Design: Number of adhesive circles
  2. Sensor Timing: Plunger opening delay & dwell time
  3. Mechanical Settings: Plunger height and cap-head alignment
  4. Rotation Requirements: Minimum 3 full rotations at high position
  5. Gear Ratio: Must be ≥ 6.01 for consistent application

Consequences of Improper Settings

  • Insufficient Overlap: Weak sealing integrity
  • Excessive Overlap: Adhesive waste & uneven curing
